How did it all start?
So how did this dynamic, versatile group of filmmakers got together to start this anthology? Spoiler - it might involve commiserating over some good food and drinks with friends as all great things do!
In 2019 a few of us were classmates in a rigorous “Directing the Actor” workshop through Alliance of Women Directors taught by the formidable and kind Jennifer Warren. As filmmakers we strengthened our directing skills by giving each other notes and directing a live scene in class.
In February of 2020, we decided to reconnect to catch up with each other. The potluck was filled with great food and talks about our current projects, exciting ventures, and challenges we all faced in the film industry. As women directors, all from historically marginalized backgrounds, our struggles shared a common hurdle - breaking into feature film territory after creating in short films and web series.
Suddenly, a spark lit in Becca Louisell - why not make a film TOGETHER? From horror/thriller to raunchy coming of age, our filmmaking styles shone individually but an unmistakable common thread we held was our mission statement - to support and amplify a diversity of women/female directors. We were going to put action to this mission!
Flash forward through the riveting year(s) of 2020 to current day - where we have grown our director team to 7, had monthly ZOOM meetings where we first worked as a writers’ room developing our stories, to creating our pitch materials, to on-boarding our lovely producers, Kay Tuxford and Alexandra Renzo - and we are ready to take over the world!…or at least the big screen for now :)
