Synopsis
7 Sunny Slope Lane is tucked away in a charming and seemingly serene neighborhood, just a short drive from the hustle and bustle of the city. But as the home keeps changing hands, more is uncovered of its structure and its residents. The shaky foundation of the home begins to crumble when new neighbors move across the street revealing the tension of race relations in the 50s and the facade of the American Dream. Our landscape changes reflecting the tides of social movements and demographics of the neighborhood. In the 60s, a child witnesses external oppression that seeps into her personal space. A young woman in the 70s trips out in her parent’s living room while she contemplates freedom to pursue her own dreams vs. staying with tradition. The sexual revolution of the 80s, brings us potential lurkers and abductors peeking through the blinds as a teen explores her penchant for danger. In the 90s, the pacifying popularity of TV washes over the home while a bored girl learns the impact of summertime friendship.
The new millenium brings our collective focus to new family structures and technology in the home. A single-mother is plagued with questioning her ability to provide safety for her children after a break-in. In 2019, a work-driven, social media savvy, 30-something must learn to be present in the moment and the house, facing all its flaws - chipped walls, trauma and all - in order to say goodbye with a fresh can of paint.
